On April 4 during the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo, the following health and physical educators were named 2025 National Teachers of the Year: Brad Hunter (MD); Sandee Ortiz (WI); Thomas Gelardi (NY); Courtney Lukasavitz (WI); and Lisa Smith (MN). They were selected after a lengthy process which included both state and district competitions. The Teacher of the Year awards are given in recognition of outstanding teaching performance and the ability to motivate today’s youth to participate in a lifetime of physical activity.
